Amy Lemaire
"Beads: Form, Surface, Detail"
June 3 - 4 (2-day workshop)

 

Want to practice complex surface decoration and explore color, and form? Let's make beads! In this workshop, we will make different types of soft glass beads and cover a range of topics such as sculpting, off-mandrel blown beads and encalmo, color mixing, pattern application, signature murrini, and more. Beginners and advanced flame workers are encouraged to explore new methods of working in this information packed class. 

All levels.

This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Saturday and Sunday, with additional studio time Saturday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.  


Amy Lemaire is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. An explorer at heart, her work reveals an interest in currency systems, material language poetics and the production of histories. Lemaire studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA) and Pratt Institute (MFA). She has taught at UrbanGlass (NY), Pilchuck Glass School (WA), Penland School of Crafts (NC) and Salem Community College (NJ). As a visiting artist and instructor, Lemaire has worked with students at Pratt Institute, NYU, Tyler School of Art, Alfred University, and University of Montana. Recent residencies include Tyler School of Art, UrbanGlass, Museum of Art and Design, WheatonArts, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Her essay "Flame Grows Up" was published in Glass Quarterly magazine in 2018. She is an artistic member of the American Scientific Glassblowers Association and a member of the Glass Art Society. Lemaire has exhibited at galleries across the US , including Traver Gallery in Seattle and is currently represented by Heller Gallery in NYC.

Additional Course Information

- Participation limited to students 18 years of age and up.
- Lunch is available for an additional fee; $35 for 2-day workshops. 
- Classes meet 9 am to 5 pm each day. Students will have additional practice time on Saturday evening from 5 pm to 9 pm.
- Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.
- Any work from the final day of the course remaining in a kiln will be available for pick up beginning the following Monday. Students may have finished worked shipped for an additional fee.

Cancellation and Refund Policies  

- Salem Community College is not responsible for non-refundable travel expenses. There is always a chance, due to unforeseen circumstances, that a class could be cancelled unexpectedly. In these instances, refunds on registration will be issued, and Salem Community College will not be responsible for non-refundable travel expenses. 
- Classes are subject to a minimum enrollment policy. In the event that we do not meet our minimum enrollment for a course we will refund your purchase. Students will be notified no later than 45 days prior to their class start date if their workshop is subject to cancellation due to enrollment. 
- Student cancellation/refund policy- Cancellations made more than 45 days prior to the start of the class are subject to a $150 cancellation fee. Cancellations made 2 weeks prior to the start of a course will receive a 50% refund for the registration fee. Cancellations within 2 weeks of the course are not eligible for a refund.
